Cosmic rays in structure formation
The impact of cosmic rays on structure formation and even on the evolution of individual galaxies is still an open question in many aspects. In particular, cosmic rays might play an important role in launching galactic outflows. Although these winds are crucial to regulate star formation in galaxies and transport enriched material into the halo, the mechanisms that drive the winds remain poorly understood.
In this thesis, I will carry out simulations with the moving mesh code AREPO and use the recently implemented cosmic ray module to study the influence of cosmic rays on galaxy evolution and eventually on structure formation. Here, my first focus will be on galactic outflows.
