The 15th IMPRS Summer School

This webpage provides information for the 15th Heidelberg Summer School on the topic of

                    Planet Formation in Protoplanetary Disks

The  school took place as an online event.

The 15th Heidelberg Summer School took place August 31 - September 4 in the "Mathematikon", more specifically in the Institute for Computer Science,  IWR,  address "Im Neuenheimer Feld 205" (or "INF 205"), seminar rooms A-C (ground floor).

IMPRS for Astronomy and Cosmic Physics at the University of Heidelberg (IMPRS-HD):

Max Planck Institute for Astronomy, Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics, Astronomisches Rechen-Institut, Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics, Landessternwarte Koenigstuhl, and Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies.

Scientific organizing committee:

Bertram Bitsch, Mario Flock, Paola Pinilla   (all at MPIA).

School lecturers:

Pablo Benítez Llambay   (Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen)
Cornelis P. Dullemond   (ITA, University of Heidelberg)
Michiel Lambrechts   (Lund Observatory)
Yamila Miguel   (Leiden Observatory)
Catherine Walsh   (Leeds University)

Scope of the School:

The 2020 Heidelberg Summer School will focus on different aspects of planet formation in Protoplanetary Disks.

The following questions will be addressed during this school:

- How do planets interact with Protoplanetary Disks?
- How does radiative transfer in disks work?
- What do protoplanetary discs look like and what are they made of?
- How do planets form?
- What can we learn from exoplanets?

Five distinguished invited lecturers, along with an assortment of local experts, provided an introduction to the field with an emphasis on applications.

In addition to the formal lectures, there were problem-solving sessions, career discussions, and a variety of social activities. The 2021 Heidelberg Summer School did  focus on the most relevant aspects of stellar astrophysics, insofar they are relevant for the interaction of stars with each other, and with their planetary systems.
